The Ten Mile Lake Sailing Club season got off to a great start on Saturday, July 2, with six boats competing in west winds gusting between 15 and 20 miles per hour.
Ki Hoffman, with father Byron and daughter Ari won the first race, followed by Bob and Mariah Crabb, Andy and Michelle Nelson, Grant Moos (with Alex Lokken and Heather Hoffman), Tom and Bob Siqveland, and Kent Hoffman.
In the second race, following several lead changes and after picking up a third as crew (Becca Lundberg), Bob Crabb prevailed, followed by the Hoffman, Moos, Nelson and Siqveland boats.
Following the race, a season kickoff party was held at the Moos cabin that was attended by about 40 people, including the Putney and Lundberg families, and Karin (Lane) Arsin (an early sailor of classic wooden C boats).
Many thanks to our excellent Committee Boat crew: Ed “Pete” Crandall, Dick Staunton, Hannah Moos and Meredith Wardlaw.
And thanks also to Hannah Moos and Brad Putney for the fabulous photos they contributed from Saturday’s race. We hope to make some of the photos available later in the summer.
The next race is the Memorial Cup on July 16, followed by races every weekend through Aug. 6.
Don’t hesitate to call if you’re interested in crewing or attending one of our sailing clinics. We’ve had several new sailors out already this summer, including Lou Gogela and Alex Lokken.
See you on July 16.
